9 Signs It Might Be Time To Replace Your Windows

.

It’s very easy to put off home improvement projects. However, windows can really transform both aesthetics and performance of your home. Following are  9 signs to tell when it might be time to replace your windows.

.

.

.

1. There is a Draft

If after touching your window you can feel the cold outside or feel a draft when standing next to them, it is time to look at replacing your windows.

2. It’s Too Hot

On hot days when your windows are closed, do you notice that your house seems quite warm? The reason for this is older windows lack the proper insulation that helps keep the heat out when the sun is shining down on them. Modern double glazing feature low E coating that keeps your interiors comfortable.

3. Your Windows Are Old

If your windows have 20 to 30 years, there is a chance they may be the home’s original windows, and it’s likely they are made with single-pane glass. Windows without proper glazing may not be keeping the UV rays out of your home, and this can cause problems like fading to your draperies/curtains, carpet, and other furniture.

4. They Will Not Open

There are various reasons a window might not open. When you have old wood windows in your home, the years of painted frames can result in your windows being difficult to open. If your windows seem like they are glued shut and will not open at all, it’s time to look into replacing them. Oder aluminium or timber windows can be prone to swelling during temperature changes or springs in the handle becoming inoperable when you press them to release the locking mechanism.

5. Visible Damage

This is an undeniable sign that it is time to consider replacing your windows. Some common signs for damaged windows include:

  • Visible water stains on or around the window
  • A-frame that’s bent or broken
  • Deterioration or chipping of the frame or glass
  • Broken glass

Although some window damages do not need to be fixed straight away, it will start to affect your comfort in your home from a cooling and heating perspective.

6. Outside Noise

If you can hear outside noise when you have your windows closed, it is likely your windows are not providing enough acoustic insulation.

7. Hard To Clean

Cleaning your windows is not something you need to worry about every day, but it should be done a couple of times each year. Older windows will not easily lift out of the tracks making them more challenging to clean.

8. Improve Aesthetic

Your windows say a lot about you, reflecting your sense of style, personality, even your approach to life, so getting the right design advice is essential. That’s why Marvin offers such personalised solutions – so your home can reflect who you are.

9. Return On Investment

By Investing in replacement windows with low U-values, you will improve the energy performance of your home. This is one of the leading reasons that should change your windows. By having new, well-designed windows, you can sit back, relax and enjoy lower utility costs.
